seriously need some advice!

kirito2187
okay so i'm gonna be honest here in hopes to get actual good advice. so i'm fresh out of a seven year relationship and not great at the whole dating scene. i definitely don't want to just jump on the whole "lets go to bars and try to meet girls" thing that most guys think is a good idea these days. since high school i've wanted to meet a girl who not only is genuinely nice but also has similar interests (aka a nerd lol) and to this day (i'm 26 btw) have yet to find one. i'm not going to lie and say i'm on a constant hunt for a girl or desperate to jump into a relationship, but going from being with someone and being in love(or so i thought) for seven years to being on my own again isn't very enjoyable. i have learned quickly that no matter how honest you try to be or real you are when it comes to talking to girls online that you almost always fall into a sea of guys that are all doing the same thing and then its almost as if your competing to be the most compatible one out of the bunch. that's a pretty shitty situation to be in. i've also learned that even online its not very likely that girls would approach guys which makes it almost certain that you have to just be the best fish in the sea. i don't even know what i'm asking... i guess i just want to know if i'm the only one who feels this way or if there are girls who feel this way about guys? but i guess if there is a point or actual question to ask its this... how or what is the best way to approach a girl and not just seem like a creep or just another fish in the sea? any advice would probably be helpful and if not helpful then just the conversation alone might be helpful in the sense of knowing i'm not the only one who thinks this way so... ready, set, conversate! lol

Hey Kirito! I think a lot of guys on here can relate. Let me see if I can help. First, if you want to find some nerdy girls, you need to look in the right places. You're probably not going to find any interesting girls at bars or clubs. A lot of nerdy/geeky girls like to read, so a bookstore would be a good place to start. You can also go to other places where nerds and geeks alike go, such as comic shops, anime stores, or even conventions. If you're in school (college/university) or have a job, your chances of meeting someone will increase since you socialize with the people there. Approaching a girl is very tricky since you'll probably get rejected, but I'm telling you that you should try. If you find a girl that you think is cute, the best way to approach her is to try to start a conversation with her by using your environment to your advantage. You can use the book she's looking at or the shirt she's wearing to start the conversation (just don't say anything pervy). Once you start talking a little, you should then just ask her out. As for finding a girl online, it's a whole different story but some the same rules apply. When sending a message to a girl you should try to stand out somehow. Don't just say "hello" or "hey". Those words are so common and the fact that a lot of women on dating sites get those all the time that they kind of zone it out. A good way to say hi would be something like "how's it going?". The probability of her messaging back will be higher. Also, mind your spelling and grammar when typing messages (trust me, it does matter). Talk about the things that you have in common. After that, again, be honest and tell her that you think she's cute and that you're interested. If you get rejected, just be respectful and move on.
