I used to wear perfume everyday... wasted a lot of money on expensive stuff but I slowed down a bit. So far I have 2 kinds of perfume if I remember correctly the most expensive one I own now did cost around 80 € For preferences on girls Idk. It shouldn´t smell that strong if you are very close to her just like a gentle kiss in the nose or so :D
Personally never have taken to cologne, though the times I have used it were probably attempting to mask sweat and the like in the absence of shower availability when younger. And odds are they might've just resulted in some horrible mixed scent that did me no favors.
Meanwhile, there was one girl I'd gone with who used some discontinued type of perfume from Victoria's Secret. While I won't say it turned me into an uncontrollable manslut, it was still a memorable smell.
Anyone since then either goes unnoticed or is the obvious case of too much, as is frequent when driving my niece to work and such. In the end, I guess I'd prefer to just not be bothered by it than it being the reason I'm drawn to someone. Sometimes I question the sensitivity of my nose as is.
Whenever i wear versace or chanel de blue parfum (not the eu toilette) i always get complimented how well i smell and it seems to give me more attention than i really deserve. Then on those days where i don't really care and either spray myself with fierce or axe then its like you smell like every other dude in the area. It's been tested though that women follow their noses before their eyes :P and maybe you were dressed really well
I would love to try vintage scents made back in the day with actual natural ingredients. Most scents today use artificial chemical scents because many natural ingredients are too rare/expensive/protected to be practical.
I've worn Sandalwood oil as a perfume and I like some Patchouli and I found one Dragon's Blood that I loved but never found any other Dragon's Blood oil that smelled the same (they all smell different anyway).
My deodorant smells like fruit roll ups. I always have scented soaps. Lemon, lavender, honey. The shampoo I use is sulfate free and has a nice scent. I love the different smells of flowers and plants. Scents, among other sensations, attract me.
L'eau D'Issey Pour Homme Sport and L'Homme are my two favorites. And it seems not a lot of people wear them for some reason, so I tend to smell unique.

Personally i'm leaning towards a smell that isn't too strong but "adds" to my "aura." or rather, "compliments." Sorta like what Sas said

I like to read discussions here. Also look for a movie called Perfume.

Might have to try that sometime.
