Interesting Words

I ran across a word the other day that, for whatever reason, I hadn't heard in a while, but I really find it interesting, so I figured it might make for a good excuse to start a thread on this kind of thing. Thr word in question is 唐変木 (touhenboku). The context I found it in sort of used it like, "insensitive jerk," but what I'm really curious about is the "tou" here, as it's usually used to refer to China, although sometimes it's used for Korea or some other foreign nations as well. Thoughts? There's always been a sense of animosity between China and Japan for years and years, but I'm curious if Japanese people today even think about it like that when they use it. I've seen it written out in katakana as "トーヘンボク" before as well, so I kind of wonder if it doesn't actually carry the sort of subtext I'm assuming it does; if it ever did at all.
