@daggerfella they were pretty violent after all they were they ones providing slaves from captured rival tribes to the Atlantic slave trade which doesn't help their case but if I'm remembering correctly the reason they called them savages was because they claimed they were too dumb to learn or improve, had no culture, and had no religion

yeah I went to look at my notes cause I could not remember the explorer's name the only one who actually learned about their culture and stuff but claimed they were still savages was Richard Burton he stated,"The study of the Negro is the study of man's rudimental mind. He would appear rather a degeneracy from the civilized man than a savage rising to the first step would it not for his total incapacity for improvement. He has not the ring for his true metal, there is no rich nature for education to cultivate. He seems to belong to one of those childish races, never rising to man's estate who fall like worn out links from the great chain of animated nature." which many people believed him because he was one of the only ones who learned about their culture while other explorers merely saw them in passing and didn't care enough to take the time to learn about them especially with philosophers and the newspapers spreading rumors that they were dangerous savages scaring explorers from wanting to learn about them

I was thinking about mentioning it since a bunch of pharaohs hooked up with Nubian queens and there's a theory that the reason Ramses built his palace so close to Nubia was either to impress the Queen at the time or to be closer to her maybe both
