You mean Appalachians, right? We're struggling to get water to people IN houses currently, so a lot of us go to the river and boil it down instead.

Course they live under bridges. The bridge is the only place you can take shelter when the acid rain falls. There's actually an abundance of water, but due to shitty infrastructure, the pipelines have been decaying (Or dissolving thanks to acid run off from the mountain tops). Only rich people have houses anymore. Or couch surfers like me.

With Californians, its because their rent is too god damn high. With us on the other side of the country? We just be broke, and environmental policies were lifted a year or two ago.

Yeah, the last time we had this problem was the 90s. Combination of pollution in Columbus and the acid runoff from abandoned coal mines. It's not as bad as people like to think it is. It just leads to cancer and infrastructural weakening over time. And given that most of our infrastructure is ancient anyways... Yay! Landslides!
