A 5D manifold can be defined as ordinary spacetime (t,xyz) plus an extra dimension. The 5th dimension is not exactly causality. Causality is a principle not a dimension per se. Causality can be simply stated as a cause always preceding the effect. Cause before effect. Mathematically, causality can exist in 2D physics equations as well. Causality is not only pertinent to the 4th or higher dimensions. Backward time travel is probably not possible, but perhaps not impossible. Unlike ordinary bradyonic matter. Tachyons have imaginary mass (i). Tachyons always travel above the speed of light (c), which enables them to time travel back in time. Now imagine a hypothetical device called the tachyon antitelephone. Which could be used to send signals into one's own past. Let's have a thought experiment where Person A and B are calling each other on the tachyon antitelephone. Since tachyons always travel faster then light. Each person in the thought experiment would receive their signal back before they even sent their message. Where sending the message is the cause and the signal received is the effect. The signal received (effect) happens before sending the message (cause) happens. Which would violate the principle of causality. Violating the principle of causality in time can make for paradoxes. Which is one reason why backwards time travel is probably not possible. The question is, do Tachyons exist? As far as I know. There hasn't been a particle detected with imaginary masses (square root of one) . No tachyon antitelephone to violate the principle of causality. @reisenpai66
