Your thoughts on the ending of 'End of Evangelion'

I've just recently finished watching series and I would just love to hear all your thoughts and opinions on its infamous ending :)

I think it was a near perfect way for the series to end; Shinji curled up in a ball and Asuka just hating his guts. Seeing as though Anno could've ended it any other way, it just seemed like the right ending for such a great retry at ending the series.

I made the mistake of getting introduced to the series through the final movie, and because of that, I was never really able to appreciate Evangelion. Although thinking back now that I've matured a bit, I'm pretty sure it's incomprehensibility was intended not to be taken literally. Rather, like seeing a tranquility garden, the interpretation of its meaning can change drastically from person to person, but all of the interpretations are regarded as valid. That said, even to this day, I still can't watch the beginning without seeing flashbacks of giant melting bewbs, mast... Erm, the first five minutes, and other crap that made me feel like a protagonist in the Cthulhu mythos exposed to my first incomprehensible eldritch horror. So there you have it. What ever you do, make sure you watch the series before the final movie. Because... Fuck, I wish I started with the series before the final movie.

I don't get it... and by 'it' i mean I don't get the hype behind it. The animation was great, but everything else was fucking annoying. I absolutely hated Shinji. Like I was hoping he'd die every time he hopped into his mom.

I kinda love and hate it. I like the dark/oppressive atmosphere and the art and animation were both stellar. I also kinda liked how the ending was kinda strange, symbolic, and barely defined. But I'm no fan of Shinji, and he's next to intolerable in this movie; that opening scene really doesn't help his case either. I enjoy watching it every once and a while though

one of my fav anime movies but people do over think it a lot and over hype it but luckily it lived up to the hype for me. I love dark twisted messed up stuff like that and religious symbolism even if random and pointless is always nice to me.
