Thousands of years ago, a great battle took place between the two great nations. The nations had been in countless wars and refused to surrender to the other. One day, two brothers visited botht the nations and made an agreement with them. They themselves were from the two nations. They would wed a daughter from each nation in return for peace. At first this was called outrage, but further polical parties agreed to thier terms. It seemed that peace would be had at last. However, things soon fell apart. The brothers had always had a difference of opinion. One wanted freedom for all and wanted to help make the world whole, the another wanted the same, but believed the strongest should rule. This vast difference lead to yet another war. Unfortunately, this would be the war that ended everything. Both countries were destroyed due to the intense conflict, and in the center were the two brothers. One of light and one of darkness, there singular battle continued for eons. Until finally, giving up his power, the warrior of light sealed his brother away in a ancient vault, never to be opened. The warrior, know only as rapture, wandered the lands for the centuries that followed. But one being refused to let thier conflict stop. From the deepest depths of outworld, Shao Khan noticed the brothers vile conflcit and swore to reopen the dark eielder's tomb. More time passed until Shao Khan made a unquie discovery. Only one of rivaled power could open the tomb, but must forfiet his own life in the process. So Shao Khan created a life link to the tombs door, so that upon his death, a new being of hate would ravage earth realm. So when the Khan met his end at the hands of the thunder "god" raiden, the lock was destroyed releasing the dark being. Rapture, living quietly in Japan for centuries, sensed his brothers return. He also, sensed that the blood lock had been used to do so, so he set up to put an end to his brother before another could break out. When he arrived at the ancient tomb, the brother was gone, only the broken seal, glowing red from Shao Khans essence. Rapture could sense the evil coming from the lock, and saw vile visions of Khan's atrocities. Rapture knew that he brother would not return to full strength so quickly, it would take.years perhaps decades before he truly returned. So he dedicated the little time he had remaining to finding and stopping his brother. Unknown to him, his brother was recovering quicker than expected thanks to the help of qhan chai, one Shao Khan's most loyal followers. Quan Chi knew the warrior would bring outworld to greatness, and vowed his loyality. The warrior, now known as Darkhan started gathering warriors of darkness to his side, forming the Knights of Shadow. Rapture, feeling his brothers power growing, knew he would not live long enough to stop him, so like his Darkhan, he too recruited allies to his side.
