5 anime you think more people should watch!

penna
Following up from another post which asked about top 5 recommended anime, I wanna take a little time to acknowledge that while maybe not the "greatest anime ever" there's a lot of really good ones that people just don't ever watch! In most cases it's just because they don't pick up the mainstream attention, which is understandable, but sad. I for one certainly don't know of every good anime out there so list em up! What should more people take the time to see? =)

1 - Dennou Coil: I was amazed when I accidentally stumbled on this one. It's incredible. But no one I know has actually seen it! It's a sci-fi series set in the future where technology has advanced far enough that it exists over the real world, seen only through glasses which act as their monitors. It starts off as pure fun but soon delves into the mysteries hidden in glitches in data that start to affect the real world. The animation was handled extremely well and it's a type of series that's easy for anyone to watch and enjoy. Highly recommended. (It's not on the MO list sadly, but check it out!) 2. Katanagatari: This is my favorite anime to date and it's kind of a pity poorly it was received. It's quite different than your average anime though. Written by the creator of Bakemonogatari it's a classic epic about a female strategian who seeks out 12 infamous swords along with a legendary swordsman who follows the path of no swords. The art I think is fantastic since it captures an imaginary sensation for the series and carries a sense of style for each character individually. It's heavy in dialogue, but if you're one who loves romantic adventures, then you'll love Katanagatari. 3. Shinsekai Yori: One day humanity abruptly evolved with the ability to use psychic abilities. But humanity was too premature to handle such power and there was chaos. 1000 years in the future, the world has changed and history has been lost with humanity returning to quiet lives in villages and small towns. The story follows a young girl through her life as she uncovers the dark secrets that were buried away. It's a dark series and extremely serious. Not one I would recommend to everyone. But it is brilliantly written giving the viewer a deep look into humanity and more unusual, different ways of living. It felt like the whole series was one huge secret you were being shown. 4. Sola: Something a little more down to earth, Sola brings a little touch of fantasy to the real world with charming romance and dreamy eyes. It has a few emotional parts that I had a hard time forgetting but I remember being glad I watched it. Actually I remember wishing there were more series like it since it's decently unique in nature. Worth checking out for yourself. Maybe you'll like what you see. 5. Kino's Journey: This is a bit of an "older" anime and it definitely presents it through the art. But the focus of this story is a young girl named Kino who travels around on her talking vehicle Hermes, exploring many unknown countries to see new ways of life and the dark sides to each of them. It's a very quiet anime and truthfully feels more like old fairy tale stories. But each story has something to say about humanity and how we view things. If you're feeling adventurous, I recommend taking the plunge. It's totally worthwhile.

Katanagatari is a great anime with a goddamn TERRIBLE ending. >"but if you're one who loves romantic adventures, then you'll love Katanagatari." Lol. Shinsekai Yori is amazing and bleak as hell. <3

Wow, I think I'll have to look up Katanagatari then. Love my romance adventure stories. 1. The Legend of The Legendary Heroes: This was the first anime I've watched fully voluntarily. This was such an epic story, filled to the brim with drama and action, plus some romance. It's really a shame not too many people have seen it. In a world of military magic, Ryner, a military magic student, is imprisoned after a mission went terribly wrong, and is deemed too dangerous a magician. He gets the emperor to let him search for Legendary Hero relics that could stop the war. 2. Air Gear: About street gangs that employ the use of two-wheeled, motorized skates called Air Trecks. The story follows the endeavors of "Baby Face" Ikki of the West Coast Gunz as he climbs up the ranks in order to become the legendary Sky King. The show has an awesome concept, but unfortunately, production was cancelled during the making of the second season. Btw, two thumbs up for its awesome opening song. 3. Saekano -How To Raise a Boring Girlfriend-: Even though this show is only 13 episodes long, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. It's about a hard-core otaku named Tomoya who brings together a group of talented friends to help him realize his new dream of making a dating sim game. I would consider this a borderline harem series 'cause all the girls have feelings for Tomoya, but they never really confess them. Good show if you want to laugh a lot, get insight on dating sim making, or make your own ship. 4.Suisei no Gargantia: In the distant future, many humans have abandoned Earth, and fight in distant galaxies against aliens called “Hidiaazu.” A mech pilot, Redo, is accidentally transported to Earth, only finding it completely submerged in water. Redo has to now live alongside the floating colony of Gargantia, made up of "less advanced" humans. The art is fantastic, and the story surrounds friendship and the morals associated with taking or not taking lives. 5.God Eater: In post-apocalyptic Earth, humanity has fallen to monsters known as Aragami. A scientist was able to create living weapons, known as God Arcs, to combat the Aragami. Utsugi Lenka, a former wanderer, is accepted into the Far East District stronghold, becoming a God Eater. He quickly gains respect among the other God Eaters, as he fights for those in need. Although with animation similar to RWBY, this anime also has a good amount of blood.

Haibane Renmei: Perfect story of a bunch of people who grow wings and have no memory of their life before living in a small town trying to piece together all the answers Martian Succesor Nadesico - A 90s classic that has sort of faded from the public eye. It's funny, charming, moving, and one of kind. Loveable characters, space adventures, a legitimate love triangle with a real conclusion.. man. His Or Her Circumstances - some of you may have read the kare kano manga but this shojo anime was directed by the guy who made eva AFTER he did eva. It results in being a very interesting and introspective take on shojo and human relationships in general. School Rumble: God anime is fun sometimes Now and Then, Here and There: God anime is sad sometimes

@MainichiMaidCafe: I actually loved Haibane Renmei. Objectively mediocre, but it was really interesting. xD
