What is with the sudden explosion of this "JSW" thing

Personally, I don't completely understand what it means. Call it ignorance, but I don't really care, either. The problem I have with it is you're saying some phrase in where there are more intelligent words already in use. Which brings me to why? Why do people use this term? And so freely at that? To me, it feels just as common as calling people "faggots" just because. Let's be honest, I call people out on shit when they're being stupid from time to time, but using words that actually apply to what is being said and/or portrayed at that time. But I digress, if somebody can please explain to me the significance of this phrase being tossed around so commonly, I would appreciate it.

I think the term you're looking for is SJW. It means Social Justice Warrior, basically the term implies that you are keyboard warrior with a radical social stemed agenda such things as Feminism, LGBT and other socially grey issues. It comes from that whole Anita Sarkeesian thing and Gamergate. it's not sudden either it's being going on for about 2 years.

That was what I meant, but can't edit topic headings, so I didn't bother correcting it. The first time I've heard it used was about 2 weeks ago, although if that is the meaning, I notice a lot of people using it incorrectly, again, like faggot. A shame.

"SJW" are not anything new. People have always been lobbying for change against things they believe are wrong eg Martin Luther King, The Suffragettes, Equality for the LGBT etc the list goes on. Due to the rise of social media / internet communication you can easily find like minded people and a cause to champion for which is great most of the time. It can lead to change / progress. Although I am all for people fighting for equality/ tolerance a lot of the time I just see "SJW" as the professional offended people who take up arms just to feel morally superior. There are some particularly nasty "SJW" who can't accept criticism or opposing views and if you were to challenge them you would be called: racist / patriarchy etc

Ok, I can understand that pretty well. I have noticed, as i previously mentioned, it keeps being tossed around (here at least) from people who seem to be uneducated to its intended usage, using it like a more foul term like "faggot", though.

tl;dr -- It's generally being used for people with paper-thin skin who get offended over just about anything and then proceed to try and ban it.

I think social justice warrior is such a terrible name to use if you're trying to insult people cause it sounds like "a warrior for social justice" of which I personally think social justice is pretty awesome sooo..... :p

Social justice warriors in my experience comprise the 13-30 demographic, are feminist, may be 'genderfluid/queer', are generally ugly/unkempt looking people who provide no support for their opinion that carries any actual weight. They generally are socially awkward, and feel the world revolves around them. There's not much else to say. Literally, they're like a more retarded version of creeps like Chris-chan and shit.
