Never played Japanese mahjong before. How different is it from the original?

What do you mean original. What rules do you play by? Matching Pairs is not Mahjong lmao

i play basically with the rules most common in China and Taiwan but I also know how to play classical. Mahjong originated in china, that's why I asked. I didn't know Japan had a mahjong variation or not

Only thing different probably, has no flowers. You need to know what hands are worth points (Yaku). So many types of hands, to create.
