What's up loved otaku family. My name is Casey, but people call me Mugen. I was wondering how lazy of me would it be for me to learn Japanese just because I'm too lazy to read subtitles. There are a bunch of epic anime out there I know that are taking to long to be translated professionally so why not just cut out the middle man and learn Japanese?

I'm glad I'm not the only one. You just have to get out there and do it. After college I plan to throw myself into some city in Tokyo and do the full emersion technique

I think of doing that, but I don't talk enough with people in English now, so it wouldn't make much of a difference

You'll need to talk to someone for food or shelter. I guess after that you wouldn't really need to talk to anyone else....RosettaStone? Next best thing :D

haha yeah, I'd learn the basics and that's it.
But I'd seriously try after some time, can't be a hermit crab forever :3

It's not as easy as it sounds. My friend was teaching himself Japanese, married a girl in Japan, has lived in Japan for damn near two years as a teacher, and he's barely cracked the basics.
I'm not trying to discourage you, I just want you to understand what you're in for.
