Anime Club At My College

darkhorse
Hey guys. So, I just graduated community college with an AA in liberal arts. I'm going to a 4-year school in the fall. My mom told me of their anime club, as she graduated last year herself. Apparently the group is more diverse than my community college's club. Let me explain. I went a few times to the Anime and Video Game club to meet girls (basically my entire approach to all social events for school), because in high school the anime club had more girls than guys. I was like, "Yeah, this will be great!" So I go there and well, I thought to myself "Is this the Black Student Union?" I was one of maybe 3 or 4 white guys in a group of 30. Most of the guys where black or Asian. There were two girls. Now, I thought to myself "well this sucks, how about I talk to the guys?" All the guys were playing Pokemon with each other on their 3DS. Most weren't talking to each other. A few of the guys kept talking about My Little Pony while the other guys (who were very tall and heavyset black guys) play Pokemon. I was like "fuck this shit!" And the time before that, I went when there was all this drama because this one girl has mental problems and kept accusing this late 20 year old (who I later learned hits on teenage girls at cons because he thinks age doesn't matter) of following her to the bathroom, which, while the guy is creepy as fuck, is actually harmless.......mostly. At least he was innocent of that. Eventually this girl formed her own club "The Video Game Design Club" and bullied these other students into being her "Yes-Men". I later saw her at a con and she didn't recognize me even though she tried starting shit with me. So, I hope my next anime club I go to doesn't involve autistic, man-children, and psychotic women. Or did I just describe the entire fandom? Or have I been watching "The Adventures of Butt-Hurt Anime Fan" on Youtube too many times? On a side note, the 50 some year old guy I play D&D with sneaks into the anime club at another college near me to hand out with college students. But at least those students major in Japanese and to be fair he sponsors an anime club in Dallas. Otakus are strange people.

At the anime club I go to at my university, there are almost no undergrads at all, and out of the 30-35 people that go to it, there are probably only 4 girls, all graduate students or people who just won't leave, and all of them taken or lesbian. Other than that, it's pretty much just all old, mildly creepy guys. Me and my friend are two of the 4ish people who go there who are undergrads. And of course, most everyone just plays Pokemon or browses the internet on laptops the whole time and never speak to each other. I'm friends with a few of the more sane people there, but for the most part, its just all hikkikomori types... Apparently, that's common =/

>Animes great, it's just the fans that suck. This. :/ One of the main reasons I don't go to cons and such. Nothing wrong with really liking something, but some people take their obsessions to extremes...

Stuff like that is the reason you get a little iffy at anime clubs.

TBH I don't really like ppl in the Geek/Nerd/Gamer/Anime community. Reasons mainly what Darkhorse was saying. So yeah.

If anyone says "nya" in my general proximity, I'm taking off running. Most otaku are pretty embarrassing to be around.

Almost any anime club I've ever seen or been a part of have pretty much been massive sausage fests with usually the few girls there already having boyfriends. It's not a bad place to meet new friends but I wouldn't expect to find many single girls to say the least.
