Hmm, well, art is subjective right? So to someone else that plain looking boy could be the most beautiful thing they've ever seen. Though I do get that if it's art relating to anime/manga then generic characters are boring cut and pastes of each other. Quite a few characters can almost be identical these days.

@draig I gave it a quick search and now I remember it's Van Gogh's style. I must delve a bit more into it. I will after I wake up. @manga_bird Well, I meant in general. The stereotype I've just told is still boring, but assigned to 95% of the cameos in visual animations (well, except the personality part, hehe). I really cannot see Art as subjective, so in that point we disagree. Art is intrinsically entwined with Beauty (to positively stand out in aesthetics) and Meaning (to Intelectually stand out). I mean, if one wants to make literal feces stand out, either: 1. They have a crappy taste 2. They are joking 3. They are displaying to a Scatfest, then that's the suprassumus of degradation All of those rely on Shock Value... which is basically edgy. And no common person likes rampant edginess.

I agree. Complexity and Symbolism alone doesn't make something beautiful. Saying otherwide is the same as saying that a weak man carrying a giant rock should be more valued than someone carrying said rock with a car.

@draig Really? Interesting. Pointilism seems kind of unorthodox by what I am used to see.

What started as a mere hot take before sleeping continued to a fruitful discussion. I will head out. If someone wants to add something either to complement or disagree, I'll be checking on tomorrow. Bye, guys!
