Also Ul is more so for Gray's backstory if you're talking about teacher Ul and not Ultear

Yeah he stands out more, like i said in the manga hes the main focus now pretty much. And theres a lot of feel moments with Gray. Basically Laxus, Mira, Gajeel, Gray, Erza, Lucy all become a lot more main and involved well Lucy's main anyway but she gets cooler
