Religion

I don't believe in idol worship, an afterlife, a powerful old man floating in the sky or karma. I especially find it difficult to stomach anyone who claims they are following the will of God. There are hundreds of religions world-wide, each who believe their God is the most powerful and that they are the chosen race who will ascend to heaven. Did God mess up that many times and send out way too messages to his people? Or did Man create God, rather than God create Man? The most common religious teachings worldwide promote slavery, child rape, abusing women, homophobia, genocide, and disapprove of free, independent thinking. I personally believe the only acceptable approach to religion is humanism, and choosing to do good deeds because you have faith in the goodwill of the human race, rather than fear of punishment in an afterlife (Using that as an example, since it is the most common theme among religions). Yes, I might be attacking your beliefs. No, I don't care if you're offended. Beliefs are like ideas, except ideas can change and progress over time, while beliefs stay anchored in one spot, no matter how many years pass. If you have your ideas challenged, then they can get better, which is why it's worth speaking out against them. So - Thoughts?

There are religions that are atheistic or have nothing to do with a god.

You really didn't leave much room for discussion.

I believe in everything. In all religion there is some truth but religion is still a human thing so that means parts have to be wrong as egos and social values get in the way. I'm too open minded to take in only one truth. Plus I do good deeds for the same reason we all do. Because it feels good to make someone else feel good or to do the right thing. All self satisfying but all in good will. If something other than feelings is the reason then someone needs to change their state of mind.

Well nothing to really say, I dont think you are attacking some people beliefs, your way of watching it and your opinion is understandable, gotta say you really thought very well what you were going to say, but religion is religion, is like someone said god didnt send a fax to humanity, or like mao zedong said religion is the opium for the townspeople, your point is pretty valid thats my thoughts on what you said.

I am an atheist. I dont believe that "god" would ket his "children" suffer in such ways. It makes no plausible sense. :P

I don't believe humanity should let humanity suffer as such....Now that makes no sense. We murder, rape, steal, have wars, create famine, genocide and much much more....yeah...if it were me...yup....I would be quick to save that species......And don't bring up all the "good" and innocent crap. Our ways of evil far out weight our ways of good. Honestly I'm glad we have yet to meet another sentient alien being...if they were smart they'ed wipe us out before we try to kill them. But, then those are just my opinions. Meh....makes more and more sense why I remain anti social.

I know I'm probably going to get jumped on for this but I am a follower of Christ. I don't believe in a religion once you get into that kind of thinking I believe especially with churches these days it's a generally a bunch of blind people being led by someone who is a person and from my experience in all the churches I've been to those people are ether not practicing what they preach enough (given I don't expect anyone to be perfect) or they have a alternate agenda. There for I do not put my self in a religion. I believe everyone has there own right to believe what they want and everyone also has the right to respectfully disagree with that persons beliefs. I wouldn't say I am a unintelligent person by any means and it took me years to decide what my beliefs are. That's just my 2 cents on it and I respect click_here_for_candy for posting something up that might be seen so controversial to some. I respect all of you guys and what ever it is you decide to believe or not believe.

I am Christian, however I do not follow church or group worship. I take things from other religions like karma. I believe that everyone was given a choice. I think a lot into human nature, sometimes it keeps me up at night since I have an investigative mindset. I do agree with Soul above me about church. Most people going to church I believe are kiss asses so they can go home and live in hypocracy. I believe we where put on this earth not to spend all day in worship ,but to enjoy the lives that where given to us. I do not mean to offend anyone, it's just my beliefs.

I was born Jewish (we kept track of our religious lineage, though we don't practice Judaism in any form), but most of my family is very devoted to Catholicism. My immediate family are all atheists, including myself... but my mother and I are a bit spiritual. I don't care if there is a god and he chose to give us hardships, or if we brought all of our hardships on ourselves, I don't think that believing in a deity is going to fix anything. Even people who believe in a god wholeheartedly still have to go through the same troubles that any other person has to go through. In the long run, I just don't see the point. We're all going to die anyway. Beyond that, my decision is biased because of the severe bullying I underwent in middle school due to my atheism. When I quit going to Wednesday school, I was jumped by the kids I used to go with and attacked pretty viciously.
