I just finished an obscured gem called "Katanagatari." I watched on a whim but enjoyed so much more than i had thought i would, and ended up sobbing by the final episode. Warning though, if you're not willing to commit to an anime with a lot of dialogue or don't want to watch a tear jerker, then don't bother watching it.

I really like watching Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Then I went back and binged the entire series of Yu Yu Hakusho.

Yu-Yu-Hakasho and GTO. Both excellent, but GTO live action is sooo much better and funnier than animated!
