Actually anime is a very small part of Japan. Most Japanese see it as a childish thing. Biggest advice i can give is learn the language fully if you are planning to go. Very few Japanese people can speak English, and as i learned when i went last April it is a huge barrier. Japan is very beautiful and interesting so if like historical sites and culture you will enjoy it. But keep in mind there are a lot of differences from other countries. Respect is very big in japan. Talking on a cell phone in public areas is considered rude, Most businesses are fine but some smaller ones you have to remove your shoes before entering. Holding chopsticks wrong can also be rude. Japan doesn't have the same rights as America, meaning businesses can freely turn you away. But to be honest i never had that issue while i was there. Japan is very foreigner friendly so its acceptable if you don't know all their customs. Hope this helps and feel free to view my photo album if you want to see some of the sites there.

Japanese Citizens in Japan's biggest population's were almost annoyed by "Anime factions and Animating industries" WHY? The people & Citizens itself have a bother witnessing about the "OTAKU" Culture in the west but apparently are very different here on Asia or Japan itself. The Otaku word [maybe some of you already noticed it.] is known for the most negative and not a proper way to socialize it to some people they might wander if that certain person is crazy or he/she's out of he/her's mind but not all people gradually don't care about how they interact in the anime culure that has habitized in the city of Akihabara or even Harajuku which people there are totally obbssesed by it. As for myself, I haven't went to Japan these days because I live with my pilipina Mother in the philippines and my school life here is very difficult but it's still summer vacation here. The truth to the most Japanese elders who have lessened their capabilities to improve society were bothered by the technologies and the animating industries that makes Japan the 3rd Most dominating country ever developed for this 20th century.

@kakoiiseiyuu - LOL i find it funny that westerners turned a negative word into a positive. I noticed while i was there only younger people would be in the anime stores, along with older tourist like myself. And as i carried a bag back from the anime store got a few weird looks.
