I do not consider DBZ and Pokemon my first anime like others may. I didn't know it was that, so idk if it counts for me consciounsly deciding "I like anime." DBZ still laid the ground work because when I actually began watching anime, I realized like "oh, okay, so this is what to expect from this stuff. distinctive artstyle, personality types, action, romance, woah!" I basically consider manga a visual novel, and anime that "film" adaptation. To me, it may as well be long one film from beginning of a given season to it's end. Sorry for rambling, I'm just glad I got into it lol xD
The anime that got me actually watching and seeking new anime/manga was Full Metal Alchemist. Naruto was an obsession that stayed with Naruto, but Full Metal was "grown-up" for me and made me consider anime/manga art.

Mine was Vampire Hunter D. Then I started watching Big O and Inuyasha.

Berserk was the first one I really watched watched. I mean DBZ and Gundam wing but it wasn't constant.

Then I think I transitioned into like gash bell and full metal alchemist
