sounds like a manufacturing problem; why not just return it?

From what I can tell, it sounds like your charger's connection is worn out, but I can't be sure without more information. Try looking into a replacement charger.

Hmm more information is needed, for example have you dropped your laptop before this happened because you may have knocked something loose. Or perhaps you bent or damaged the plug in some way.
I do believe that you will need to provide a little more detail about your laptop and its condition.

There are are few things that could be wrong with it: You may need a replacement adapter, The battery could be bad and causing your adapter to short out, The other thing is the power port in the computer which would be the motherboard.

As Animage said, it could be either the port or the charger it self.
My friend has this problem and it was his port. I had this problem before and it was the charger.
Try plugging that charger to another computer of the same brand/model. If it charge, it's the port that's a problem, vice versa.
(I probably don't make sense due to my English Dx)

Some more info is needed as the other ppl said... My profession is fixing computer so I would need to know how old your laptop is and what is the norm for your charger port and the charger...

Like people have said, it's either the cord itself or the port.
I've had the same problem before, where the port just kinda got worn out.
I found that if I fiddled with it a bit, I could get it to charge, but if I moved it it would just stop charging. I spent a good few months using sticky tape to keep it in its place and had no problems with it.
Not exactly a permanent solution, but I hope it helps anyway. :P
