I've been doing some thinking and I want to consider joining the US Army as an officer. The college that accepted me has an ROTC program and I could make a career out of it. I know the downsides of being in the military, but my family supports my decision. The biggest obstacle is getting in shape. I've been working out almost everyday (I plan to make it everyday) for over an hour. I'm a large person, so I need to get in tone. I just wanted to know what you guys though of the Army or if any of you are veterans so I can have advice.

Go for it I say. My cousin has done it in the air force. Done wonders for him as a career. Plus the connections he's forged have been great.

I was in the navy for 6 yrs. It was a great experience for me. I say try it and if you don't like it, do your term and get out.

I am currently an officer in the Army. It does come with a lot of benefits, like fully paying for my education. There are a lot of hoops to jump through to become an officer, but I have not regretted it at all. And who knows, you might be able to work in Japan.
I was direct commissioned so I never did ROTC. I can't really give you advice on that. But I'll be happy to answer any other questions you have.
