What's the worse job you ever had?

tlalaz
alright check it (tl;dr worked Mexican restaurant with a sleazy Manager) The worst job I ever had (yet) was at a Mexican restaurant. I worked 7 days straight for 10 hours each day. It was hard work, but that wasn't the worst part. What really put me off was the manager. He assumed I was an illegal immigrant (since I am of Mexican descent) and didn't even have me fill out a W4 like your supposed to. This 30-year old guy hired a bunch of under-age High school girls that couldn't work much on weekdays, and on top of that, he'd always be hitting on them!! BUT when it came to work, they weren't doing too well, there was a language barrier present when he would try to advise the underage waitresses on how to do their job right, so he'd bring me over to try to explain to them how to do their job. I would be in the middle of explaining things to them and he'd pull me off to the side and tell me, "th-that's enough, uh... go... go do something else somewhere" and send me on my way; as if I was trying to "steal his girl" or something. On top of that, I was the errand boy as well, sent to the hardware store as well as a Kinko's (which I never found) to go buy nuts and bolts and have copies of our menus made. All costs (gas and any purchases needing to be made) were all out of my pocket. So I was fed up. After a week, I told the manager about a possible job opportunity I was going to have as a bank teller. How it paid better and offered benefits. His respond was, "we have benefits here too!" Very surprised, I asked, "what? what kind of benefits?" He jovially retorts, "have you seen the waitresses we have working here?" I quit that night.

Working in IT, especially as a contractor, presents its own unique set of...challenges. Eventually, I've had enough of working in an industry I never wanted to get into nor had any professional aspirations and quit doing IT to do music full time. Thankfully, I managed to build connections in the music industry and make enough to make a living. And it's not from my own doing, it's nothing short a miracle that I found myself making a living from what I love doing. More on that later. The worst job I ever worked was doing IT in an insurance company. It seemed like this guy had a hard-on for mistreating the IT contractor (i.e. me). Part of being a contractor is to take the initiative and talk to the manager to find work, even if there seemed to be none. So that's what I did, except that the guy would consistently say there was no work to be done. Lo and behold, five minutes later, he'd come storming to my desk when I'm in the middle of a support call and chew me out for not doing any work. So I'd ask again if there was any work whenever there was downtime, and he would chew me out for not doing enough work, after he insisted that there was no work to be done according to him. This roundabout way to do work (come chew me out when I'm in the middle of a support call, yet chews me out again when I come to him, the Manager, to find out what else needs to be done and him insisting there's nothing to do and still saying I didn't do enough). This went on during the entire duration of the contract. The pay almost justified it (almost), but this constant two-facedness led me to letting the contract running out. He had the nerve to come and try and convince me to stay because apparently I did good work. That's not what he'd been telling me the duration I worked there. I took my money, and left and went on to work contracts where my work would be appreciated (a school district who was short-handed due to their systems being struck by lightning, and a nonprofit medical company, which was amazing). My last contract was for a manufacturing company where the system admin was known for unprofessionally cussing all the time. But, he didn't really mistreat me so it wasn't all bad. As for my best, all the things I've done as a performing artist could all be considered my best work experiences. One small show as a DJ makes up for all the negative experiences I've had working in IT. I truly feel fortunate that I have a chance to make money doing what I love and am passionate about.

I'd probably say my current job. Been working there for over a year and I've reached the employee pay cap at $8.50 It's shit because of all the stuff I do there, and the little recognition I get for it. I pretty much keep the area I'm in functioning while I'm there. It's a family fun center with an arcade, laser tag, and inflatable area. I fix all the laser tag equipment, I work all the laser tag games, I'm responsible for stock and inventory for all of our arcade prizes while also redeeming prizes for people. I fix any arcade games (we have about 45) that break down, and I'm also responsible for making sure nothing happens on the inflatable area. I'm pretty much a manager without the pay or title as one. It kind of sucks, lol.

I worked for the summer at a crap motel/condo that wished it was a real resort on the beach once in JrHS. The things people do to a hotel room while on vacation we had to clean up after/repair..... One cabin was so trashed and with drunken party vomit they had to throw away all the furniture and replace the carpets and repaint and I swear I could still smell something in there months later.

Breezeway section of a Packing house at Harry and David. 45-80 lb boxes full of pears on a conveyer belt. Putting a brown padding pack in the top of the box, folding the lids and pushing them through an auto tap machine. The tape machine would stop working constantly, hands got cut up from folding the lids. The boxes would come constantly and never ending so when the tape machine would act up I had to put a stopper up to hold the boxes, reset the tape and go to work as fast as I can to put the pad in, fold the lid and push it through while holding the other boxes back. often I would end up with 20 of the boxes stacked up on a conveyer belt pushing them against what I hold back. several 100's of pounds of weight on my left arm as I held them back as I tried to work the line fast enough. Once there were 40 piled up and the turn point of the conveyor had a few boxes fall off, about 20 feet, ruining the pears. supervisor had to turn the belt off so we could get the boxes through before turning it on and off again a few more times to get them cleared out. all because the tape machine would keep breaking the tape and needing it to be reset. It's been over a year and my left shoulder is still hurt and I'm working on strength training to repair the strain and damage. I'm denied workman's comp because the full doctors report of the injury didn't come out till 7 months after I was laid off and they deny my injury being their fault.

Worked at a Auction House Warehouse as a lotter and furniture mover. The job only lasted a week until I put in workers comp. and quit. Why? The place would have been shut down if I had reported it. And I did after I quit. Hazardous working conditions, no medial emergency kits, and the place was riddled with black mold that was so copious and thick on literally everything that when you touched it, it would come off onto your body in thick, black streaks. They didn't have any janitorial or custodial workers and expected us to clean the place without any cleaning equipment. No air conditioning either, in sweltering 90*+ weather inside of an already hot, musty warehouse. My third day working there, I ended up getting a respiratory infection from the hazardous conditions. By the fourth day, I was breaking out in rashes and having to horde water for myself to prevent heat exhaustion. By day five, I filed for worker's comp and went to the hospital.

Starbucks. There were plenty of nice folks I served, but there were many rude, snobbish patrons as well. I quit soon after because I knew from the start it'd be a problem; I have a bias towards people who pay 1 dollars for a cup of coffee..
