This sounds like it could be interesting... none of my friends know enough Japanese to hold a convo, and honestly it's extremely hard to make and keep Japanese online friends(their friendship 'system' is different). Don't know if anyone else has had the experience of Japanese pen-pals/online buddies, but no matter how much you have in common with a Japanese citizen(even liking the same anime and both being genderqueer), they'll get bored after a few days and make excuses like they're always too busy to chat, like they're too polite to be honest, and that hurts more. :x

I may join up after I get a few more lessons in, I know enough to be polite and a some conversational Japanese but thats about all I got under my belt right now. I have to get back to classes, so after a refresher course I may join up!
