Positive: Their culture is exceedingly resppectful; it is not unusual to go into a 7-11 to buy a Smirnoff Ice (At least that's what I went into 7-11s for during my visit) and be bowed at upon leaving. Also, I can drink said Smirnoff Ice anywhere. I can also do that in Beijing airport. And did. Also, prevalence of affordable seafood, and unlimited tea.
Negative: WiFi is locked unless you make an account to use it before you go to Japan (711, Starbucks, etc.) and you must sign up with a subscription. Also, the cost of living is as high as in the US.

Xenophobia is a big problem, though not with the younger generation. However, Japan is still largely conservative, and in some ways, and some places, not gaijin-friendly, so to speak. However, this is being phased out.

And the Xenophobia definitely seems less prevalent in major cities compared to more small or rural areas. At least thats the feeling I got while I was there for a while. But it is certainly improving.
