apple everything basically. I have an iMac 27in 3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, 8GB (two 4GB) memory, 1TB hard drive and then I just bought a macbook pro, 2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 16GB 1600MHz memory 512GB PCIe-based flash storage, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M OSX is just the cleanest operating system for pro tools and unfortunately, hackintoshes just can't cut it to the degree I need it to :/

I was a Mac user for many years, but I had an epiphany one day that build quality was steadily decreasing, the Retina Macbook Pro I had needed the SSD replaced not once, not twice but four fucking times. Twice by sending it off, once by going to a store, and once I did it myself before selling it. I paid 2.5k for it, and had to sink in almost $1000 to keep the fucker running. I sold off all my Apple gear in 2014. You're paying for a marginally better OS, and a status symbol.

>4.0GHz When will Intel learn that CPU speed is virtually useless? There were Pentium 4s pushing 4.5GHz back in the day and they suck compared to today.

@eldar I've ran pro tools on windows and uggggh, it's just not good. Since I need pro tools for work, it's how the cookie crumbles hahaha. Besides, I've spent more on mics and plug-ins, that's why us sound engineers can charge a lot :p

Xueli, I understand, Windows isn't much better. Linux is OK for some tasks like this, FreeBSD is better, but they don't have stuff like Pro Tools on it, you usually are stuck with FOSS tools which can be decent, but usually aren't as good. I do a lot of audio work with my older SGI machines though, as they've very good tools built in. Their slower CPUs aren't really an issue for audio work, since the hardware they have is better than most stuff sold today. Thee machines cost companies $30,000 new. The only audio cards I've found that come close are the M-Audio Revolutions, which for just the card, were sold for $5,000 new. When I get back into remixing and sound mastering I may do a demo using the Octane as the master input and mixer, it will sound amazing.
