What type of writers are you looking for? Novelists I get, but any particular genres? Some writers might be more helpful than others for that.

Fiction would be amazing but I'm pretty open. I dip in horror subconsciously (I've been reading Stephen king since birth lol) and I don't realize it until I'm 15 pages in. So horror, non fiction, supernatural, fiction, etc, the works.

I used to read a lot of Richard Laymon, and I still read Anne Rice. I think I've read Carrie, but that's about it from King (though my mum owns a lot of his book) She also recommended James Herbert for horror, in particular Rats. My writing tends to shift between historical/period (Victorian mainly), horror and fantasy.

I've tried Victorian but I such at it, I can't never get the language quite right. I don't wanna mess it up

Best way to get the language is reading the literature, I love Victorian novels ^ ^ And watching period dramas/films is always good

I've read about 5 romance novels of it and I can't get it down. I was really trying though so I could try my hand at steam punk

Hmm...Try Wilkie Collins, The Woman in White or The Moonstone, very good books. Charles Dickens needs a little patience, but he is good. Jane Eyre - I loved it East Lynne North and South Any Jane Austen (though technically not Victorian) - in particular I enjoyed Mansfield Park
