That's the downside to LDR's. If one party or the other meets someone who lives much closer, it doesn't take much to pick the closer party over the other. It sucks, but it's a reality anyone considering dating someone who lives several hundreds of miles or several states or countries away has to keep in mind.

Michigan to Pennsylvania isn't exactly a hop, skip, and a jump for a lot of people. He'll I live about a 5+ hour drive to Chicago and that would still make it tough to find time to go and see someone semi-regularly. Sorry it didn't work out on this one man, but we've all has it happen from time to time. Just keep your chin up and plowing along!
