Put it in Google translate, otherwise yes it would.

This is how I started learning japanese by myself: 1. I started with hiragana. There are pretty good guides online for pratice. I mean if making flashcards or something is easier for you, go with it, I’m just giving suggestions. But you want to be able to look at a hiragana and instantly know how to read it because most of the best learning resources will use kana rather than romaji/romanized Japanese. 2.Learinig katakana 3. Learning radicals. No need to learn all of them, maybe just the important ones. You can kind of do this and kanji at the same time, it’s just that memorizing kanji (and looking them up) becomes easier the more radicals you can remember. 4.Kanji and vocabulary. There’s a billion websites and methods for learning kanji (just google “learning japanese kanji”), so really it’s kind of up to what works best for you. 5.This should probably be done alongside all of the above, but you do need to study grammar. (Nihonshock has some great grammar cheat sheets) 6.The optional step of learning how to write and speak Japanese. I can’t really help much with these because I can’t write worth crap. I don’t know anything about stroke order . Maybe using Lang-8 would help, too. I’ve heard good things about it, though I’ve never used it. As you learn kanji/vocabulary/grammar, you kind of naturally learn the readings of the words, so technically speaking you should be able to speak, but of course it’s probably best if you practice.Watch movies and anime and other Japanese TV to see how people say things. Hopefully this helps, I am still learning so this is the best I can do.

http://youtu.be/VEY0WClTKL0 This song is where I learned some dirty things in Japanese. Every time I sing it my Japanese friends look at me like "OMG JEN! D: So dirty!" then do the embarrassed-maybe-gonna-die face till I finish. :P あーあーあーあー中に出して~! I'm totally not translating that by the way, if you wanna know what that means you gotta look it up. :P On the subject of studying. I am kind of in the advanced zone, but when I don't recognize a kanji, I look it up, get the meaning and usage etc. then put it into Anki. Anki is a great free flashcard program. It helps condition my brain to remember kanji I don't often see.

My naughty comment to Cat--> The first post is probably way off, the second one should be closer. I don't know Japanese so what I did was to make the statement I wanted in the 2nd version, (avoiding slang terms) fed it into Google translate and then took the Japanese output and re-fed it back into Google translate to see if the re-translated English version made sense. And adjusted the original until it did. So the Japanese version should at least make sense even if it's not in the proper structure or stated how someone would actually say it in Japanese. But if anyone wants to critique, feel free.
