A question for all women on this site...

I have signed up for a couple dating sites recently because my options are severely limited do to my current circumstances and I noticed something. Why is it that girls on dating sites will declare that they are "looking for friends", which begs the questions "Why are you looking for a friend off of a dating website? What good could possibly come from that? Does "looking for friend mean something different than what it implies? All comments are welcome...

So "looking for friends" = "I wanna go really slow about this". I'm going to have to disagree with you unfortunately. If the relationship doesn't last, then there is a good chance that both people will begin to feel awkward around one another or one of them, usually the guy, will be in agonizing frustration because he's essentially back on level zero with no hope of leveling up. Either way you look at it, the chances of the result being good are very low if this method of dating is exercised.

It is a protection thing, but it's a precaution against "nice guys" more so than toying with someone. At least in my case.

As I said, my options are limited. And I get wanting to be safe. I mean we are talking about the internet. But even in real life this method is counter productive. To be honest, I kinda had the answer already, I just wanted to hear other people's thoughts to see if anyone had an answer I hadn't come up with. I appreciate the responses and I'm open to talking more on this.
