Severe and utter tremendous case of writers block

kain_karasu
I was writing a book a while back ( a few years) and then made a few changes to the story line...started re-writing it and now the production has come to a complete and utter stand still for almost a year now. This project actually means a lot to me and I would like to see it through to the end however I'm having issues following through with putting my ideas to paper again. So if anyone has any tips on destroying this abomination called writers block I'm all ears, who knows maybe all I need is a little positive encouragement; maybe I'm creating writers block out of my own over active imagination? Idk anymore -_-

I've have major issues with writers block. I generally consider it blank sheet syndrome. My mind generally is full of ideas but when I try to sit down and put it on paper the well is dry or anything I write I generally rewrite, and rewrite, and rewrite till I am left with... well a blank sheet. There are two things I can suggest however that have worked for me in the past, is try writing different elements of the work; skip to the middle, end... what ever. Sometimes you get so stuck on one part it ends up being a better idea to skip ahead and come back to it later. You'd be amazed how much you can change, advance, or adapt a story line by skipping parts of it and filling in the missing pieces later. The other suggestion would be "break" the norm. Go some where new to write or brainstorm, and if you can't write take notes. It is something I have been trying to do lately. I find that some of my best 'ideas' come when I am not trying to write, but when I am focused on something else. I just wish I could remember half it when I sit down....

Thanks for the advice, tried the second thing several times though it generally doesn't seem to help haha, though I've never really tried writing from different points in the storyline so that might just do it for me.

Engage in activities previously unexperienced by you, new experiences can trigger alot of ideas. Travelling is the most obvious and well documented cure for writers block i believe. I dont write fiction myself, I write up Universes for RP games, and my best cures for writers block are a combination of cannabis, Megadeth/Iron Maiden and self imposed internet exile. side-note; I dont usually listen to metal much outside of this situation...
