When a wandering master swordsman encounters bandits raiding a slave wagon he easily dispatches the, although only managing to save the life of one young boy. He tells the boy to run to a nearby village and be taken care of, and is surprised to find that the young boy had dug graves for all the deceased days later.

Most of the damage attributed to Vash is actually caused by bounty hunters in pursuit of the "60,000,000,000$$" (sixty billion "double dollars") bounty on Vash's head for the destruction of the city of July.

Events in After Story take place immediately after the end of the first part, but extends into the next ten years, where Tomoya and Nagisa live together as a family. Life continues on for Tomoya.
