Hello, my name's Matt. I'm just a single otaku from the small town of Monroe located in New York's Hudson Valley. In case anyone is wondering, I joined this site to find a relationship, but you can also never have too many friends.
I started my anime adventure when I was around 9 or 10 years old. Since then, I have grown up with a major appreciation for Japanese culture and entertainment. I can honestly say it's one of the cornerstones of my life. One dream of mine is to take a two week vacation touring around Japan.
I graduated from Monroe-Woodbury Senior High School in June of 2008 and briefly attended Orange County Community College for CIT (Computer Information Technology). However, due to financial constraints, I had to drop out and work more. During the last couple of months of my senior year in high school, I found myself a job working for Stop & Shop Supermarkets. I started off working as a cashier, but I am now a shift supervisor for my department. Unfortunately, because my job is only part time, I don't make as much as I'd like. Therefore, I don't yet have my own apartment and live at home.
During the fall of 2008, a good friend and coworker of mine told me about an anime convention about an hour from where we lived. I saved my money all year, and went to my first convention, the 2009 AnimeNEXT in Somerset, NJ. I have been going to cons every year since. I have about 6 years of con experience and attended a total of 9 conventions.
Because of the lack of conventions MaiOtaku has available, I'll list them here. I attended AnimeNEXT 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. I attended NY Comic-con/NYAF 2010. I attended Connecticon 2011, and 2012. My next planned convention will be the 2015 AnimeNEXT.
My hobbies include collecting figures, manga, posters, tapestry, wall scrolls, video games, etc. Pretty much anything that has to do with Japan or anime has my interest. I'm not much of a sports person, but if I'm with friends, I'll watch a game with them. If I had to choose a sport, then it'd have to be baseball. I love hanging out with my friends, playing board games, laughing, and just having an all around good time. Most of my friends are anime fans as well, but don't see themselves as otaku. I still love them, though.
I don't smoke, and occasionally drink with friends (sometimes in excess ;p ). I prefer scotch and gin, but I don't mind the occasional lager. Basically, I always limit myself, but if I'm at a convention with my friends and it's 15 minutes before the rave begins, well, it is technically a party...
I love comedy and action anime, as well as slice of life, but that doesn't mean I can't find myself absorbed into a romance or drama. My favorite anime at the moment would have to be K-On!. Favorite character? Akiyama Mio.
I consider myself to be pretty timid until I get to know someone. But, once I finally do break out of my shell, I can be very expressive and quirky. I'm not very social, and can be pretty awkward at times, I stumble over my words when I'm nervous, but I guess it's what makes me... me!
In conclusion, I hope to get along with everyone here and we'll see where this new path leads.
