Hey all, little late on this topic but just wanted to add to the discussion. The term "weebo/weeabo" is NOT a word used here really. I've honestly never heard it living here. I've heard the term 日本カブレ, which means Japan caberet, used to describe foreigners obsessed with Japan. So, a weebo/weeabo or whatever, is a fairly unfamiliar word amongst the whole populace here. I'm pretty sure it's mainly used by foreigners to describe other foreigner's obsession with Japanese culture, traditions, nuances, etc... Otaku's here are just anyone obsessed with something to the point it seems To make them a little socially awkward. For example, a person obsessed with trains or railcars is simply called a 鉄道オタ, or a train/railway ota. Same goes for people obsessed with games, robots, guns, etc... it has a slight negative connotation, but not nearly as bad as being called a NEET. Hope I clarified the terms decently enough. That's at least my knowledge of the terms. So, if you are a weebo/weeabo or an otaku and come to Japan 1)learn the language because most Japanese feel uncomfortable speaking another language. They are extremely polite and will go out of their way to help you, but knowing what to say and how to say it really REALLY helps 2)It's cool to be obsessed with something, tons of people here are otaku, but don't publicly admit it. You most likely will start being treated differently 3)learn your kanji! 頑張ってね！ --N
