Spooky thing is, most of the main characters are among those 256 people... (yes it's my guess, but there are many details that hint on this.) So those people are definitely not 'dead' in a traditional sense. Also, Tesla is 'secretly' mentioned in more than one place^ For example, the scene in the ED looks like a depiction of the Tesla's Tower to me-- (Tesla's Tower) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7b/Tesla_Broadcast_Tower_1904.jpeg/300px-Tesla_Broadcast_Tower_1904.jpeg (ED) https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ObZZzQD8Adc/maxresdefault.jpg

I gotta check out Saya no Uta some time then^ I enjoyed Black Lagoon a lot too. And I think Gen Urobuchi also worked on「Phantom:requiem for the phantom」, which is another touching and heart-wrenching story. It has a beautiful ED as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX6Xoc6pAYs

Looks like an interesting discovery! I didn't know much about it but I'll look into that. As to Saya no Uta, I've only heard it's a heart-wrenching story, but never checked it out myself. You seem to be a big fan of it?

That would almost be a miracle like perpetual motion. Not to say it's impossible, but it will take a real breakthrough.

Harnessing the energy is indeed important, but what happens after the sun goes down? Storage of harnessed energy is itself a challenge. In fact, transforming energy from sunlight to storable chemical energy is what drives our study of electron transfer in coordination compounds in our lab. It's kind of a Holy Grail for many chemists, and is not easy to achieve at all.
