Hey, welcome to my about section ~ I tend to lurk all over the internet, it's easier to just think of me as someone that was born, raised and lives on the internet

Haven't been on this site since 2017, so gotta update this profile. Biggest change is Vtubers, I'll get to it at the end.

Manga:
I think manga is pretty great since it combines my love for art and reading. I used to read a bunch more but still enjoy it so I'll try to look into new series that get a lot of attention. Kinda amusing when I see any series that I used to read receive an anime adaption after a couple years.

Anime:
I grew up watching anime but don't really watch anymore. Every few months I'll check for new anime clips, memes, characters, music, etc. to not be left behind.

Personality:
I will always try to keep being a decent person. Wrote that years ago but that hasn't changed. Always curious about finding interesting people through the internet and appreciate having fun. I often act and type respectably out of habit. Can easily write walls of text if I feel like it but prefer reading and lurking over interacting. Once I gain a real interest in a topic it isn't odd for me to continue digging until I end up something of an expert on it. Although there are limits to how many topics I can keep up with at the same time.

Video games:
I grew up with video games: My journey was something like handhelds->consoles->PC->flash games->mobile games. I don't really play anything except gachas now and my hardcore grinding days are over, so I only play casually now. My favorite aspect of playing gacha games is how they tend to inspire lots of fanart and fanmade content. My main ones are currently Granblue fantasy and Fate Grand Order. I played many different genres of games in the past and still occasionally keep up with news of popular new games because I still have an interest in gaming overall.

Music:
Started playing piano pretty young (mostly classical) and got to a decent level where I would perform at piano recitals where people would take turns performing new pieces they recently mastered (not always piano or solo performances) before eventually stopping. I've always really liked listening to video game music and some nostalgic OSTs are really special to me. One of my favorite pastimes is finding music cover channels and listening to the differences between people's voices and singing. (I also save intrumental cover channels too)

Voices:
I really love voices and listening to them. Rather than having specific preferences, there's a wide variety that I appreciate each in their own way. Could be silly, energetic, high, low, soft, smooth, faint, etc.

The Internet:
The internet is a pretty significant part of my life, and I've spent quite a lot of time lurking around various places on it :p. As a result, I learned tons of useful stuff along alongside tons of useless stuff. It definitely made a big impact in shaping me into who I currently am. So much that rather than being american, I feel it's more accurate to say I'm from the internet. Nowadays, I don't lurk on nearly as many places as I used to anymore but I often browse discord, reddit, twitter and youtube to keep up with my interests

Lewds:
I have a pretty in depth fascination with lewds (Lmao how do I say this without sounding weird?). I'm pretty much a veteran degenerate as far as most of the internet is concerned since I've basically finished my journey to find all sorts of lewds on the internet more than half a decade ago. I don't focus so much on the shock of fetishes anymore since I've basically seen them all and just focus on appreciating quality these days. My current preference is for lewd drawn arts and the lewd ideas that spring from them. I still regularly look at nsfw doujinshis and image boorus.

Other stuff about me might be martial arts, traveling, philosophy, etc. I have a slight interest in pretty much anything since I kinda love learning, it's just too bad that it's not be possible to learn everything I want to within one lifetime.

Hmm, that should give a pretty good idea as to what I'm like. I think I'm pretty normal but can definitely see why I may seem weird. Anyway it might be nice to meet you.

Vtubers:

Alright finally, I saved the most important and longest topic for last. Let's see...I don't want to write too much but I also want to give a good idea of just how deep I'm into them. Remember all those hobbies I wrote about above? None can currently compare to vtubers, or rather there's really no need to compare since most found a way to be connected to vtubers in some way that makes me enjoy both even more lol.

I first learned of the concept of virtual youtubers from Kizuna Ai along with many other people at the end of 2016 but continued finding and saving notable vtuber channels throughout the 'Four Heavenly Kings' era but didn't actually watch them much. This included a bunch of early nijisanji and hololive vtubers (like shizuka rin and shirakami fubuki) long before I learned what nijisanji or hololive was during the time when most vtubers posted short scripted videos rather than streaming. Back then there wasn't much of an english community so I relied on occasionally lurking /jp/ to find new vtubers (back when inaba haneru and minamori hero were new). The r/VirtualYoutubers was also tiny and quite empty for a pretty long time. I vaguely remember finding hololive's gen 3 debuting in 2019 but didn't do anything other than see their designs and save their channels. For most of 2019, I was watching twitch so I got used to watching streams and experiencing live chat.

I think I actually gained a real interest and started seriously looking into vtubers around maybe february of 2020? I found out that there was a pretty huge pool of existing jp vtubers at that time and I immediately started collecting as many translations and clip channels as I could find. I...actually can't really remember too much other than a feeling of amazement. It was as if every internet interest and hobby I was into for the past decade had somehow joined together into something beautiful and the result unexpectedly was far more entertaining than anything I had ever been interested in before. I tried to learn as much as possible about the existing vtubers at that time and look into the history I had missed out on from whatever existing information and communities existed at that time. Every day was full of reading for at least a month before I felt like I had a grasp. As anyone that watches vtuber knows, events and history move really fast. So much happens each day, week, and month that I won't even attempt to write a timeline of all the vtuber events I've experienced in the past year.

Hololive was and still is my main focus and I've followed them as closely as I could.
I'm familiar enough with Nijisanji to recognize all of their members and many of the inside jokes but do not keep up or check in nearly as frequently
I have always collected independent vtubers and smaller vtuber groups. The userlocal vtuber ranking site helped me a lot in the early days for that.
Now that vtubers have a bigger audience, there's far too many popping up for me to keep track of anymore. (not that I ever could keep track of all of them)
There's so many other languages that I've unexpectedly dipped into, like indonesian and chinese. I'm impressed with how much english speaking vtubers have grown.

Literally the only reason I go on twitter is for vtubers and fanarts. The interactions between each other is amazing
I browsed reddit daily half a decade ago for all sorts of topics so I know how to use the site as a tool pretty well but now I basically only visit vtuber subreddits
Since I like listening to music cover videos, VSingers are also on my radar. There's a bunch of vsinger groups and individuals that I feel are underrated.
As one might expect, my JP language comprehension has shot up considerably this past year from how much reading and listening I've done.

I have some friends who have their own interests and tastes when talking about vtubers but there's so much about vtubers that I would love to share that I don't get the chance to really get into. (Although just thinking about just how much I could say...is already exhausting lol). One friend calls me a vtuber encyclopedia and I really wouldn't mind becoming one hahah

I wonder if there are any others here that can keep up? Well, it's true that there's so much that it's impossible to keep up with everything so even if someone else's focus is on vtubers that I don't often keep up with, it could be a pretty cool to listen to their discoveries as a way to keep up to date if they don't mind sharing. Okay there, that might be enough on the topic of vtubers.
