That's exactly what I thought when Hunger Games came out because Battle Royale was my introduction to modern Japanese weird/ultra-violent/gore films. Since then I've seen Ichi the Killer, Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Gozu, Visitor Q, The Machine Girl, Meatball Machine, Happy Negative Chainsaw edge, Splatter: Naked Blood, Audition, Cello, Yo-Yo Girl Cop, Tokyo Gore Police, Mutant Girls Squad, Robo Geisha, The Princess Blade, Versus, Death Trance, and a bunch of others. America also remade a bunch of Japanese horror a few years back too because we have no imagination. I love crazy Japanese films.

Yeah, that's the reason I like anime so much is because of the powerful emotional content. Most movies seem dull in comparison. Also, I think the Japanese have a much better imagination and profound grasp of emotional content and philisophical exploration of life in a variety of ways through their anime. I was watching Fate Zero the other day where the heroes sat around discussing the philisophical and emotional content of what it really means to be a king and leading the people. Americans would just be obsessed with pointless action if they made the same kind of show and not bother with an in depth intellectual exploration.
