I started reading the manga but then I started watching the anime, which was free whereas the manga was not. Then the anime started getting extremely far-fetched toward the end and I stopped following it altogether, although I do have friends who update me now and again on how the story's moving along.
I prefer to watch live action films and read books instead of manga/anime these days... The "Kaiji" movies were awesome and so was "K-20: Legend of the Mask". They had perfect protagonists, IMO; one was an ordinary loser who accidentally bet his life and learned courage and responsibility through each challenge, and the other was a circus acrobat who lost everything thanks to the upper class and was framed to be the antagonist, K-20.

That's okay. ^^" I don't usually like to rant, but thanks.
Gary Joe = Mary Sue. There are other words for it, but, well... Last I checked, the dude was a Shinigami/Human/Hollow hybrid, and now he's part Quincy too, according to the manga? That's a little bit too much "special" in my opinion, haha. And he's never killed, he just get stronger even when he's defeated/clinically dead... Yes, there's a good moral in there about never giving up, but it's muddled by the fact that he's so freaking powerful.
