Tornadoes

So it's tornado season. Sometimes there are some pretty crazy storms that break out across Oklahoma and the surrounding states. I was discussing this with someone last night and they said they would never live in Oklahoma and asked me how I was able to. Honestly, I think we're just used to it. The place I reside sees funnel clouds but rarely any touch the ground and if they do they lift up again and dissipate. Tornadoes like locations on flat land, along the plains. This is why you see Moore, OK and Oklahoma City in the news so much regarding tornadoes. It's practically the ass of the great plains there. I'm lucky enough to live in a more mountains, hills, and valleys part of the state. So here are my questions: Have you ever seen a tornado in person? Have you ever had dreams about tornadoes? Would you ever consider living in Oklahoma or any other state that occasionally sees tornado activity? Would storm chasing be exciting to you?? Now I will share a few videos. The first ones are the activity from yesterday, May 9th 2016. http://youtu.be/NIMwThHV3_A http://youtu.be/K1R_N_pysRs Compilation video not from yesterday: http://youtu.be/x8eWEHuCtUk This is a clip from a show, but it features video captured by an armature storm chaser. This was the 1999 Moore, OKC tornado which was considered STRONGER than an F5- the highest rating for tornadic activity. Since this tornado shot off the charts, the Enhanced Fujita Scale was introduced. http://youtu.be/W19qa-AK8Dk 1999 tornado VS 2013 Moore Tornado http://youtu.be/7eD19ydXPB0 I'm under the impression that both these ^^^ were Mile-Wide Tornadoes. I just want to say for the record. I would never live in Moore because it just gets hit way too many times... BUUUUT I actually did live 15 miles away for college. lol

I haven't had the chance to witness a tornado when my family visited the US a couple of years back. However, a couple of tornadoes occur in the Philippines, plus we also have the misfortune of being visited by a dozen or so typhoons/cyclones every year. I think typhoons are a much more common occurrence in our country than tornadoes. Typhoon season is also almost coming to the Philippines (unless climate change messes up nature's schedule again). Typhoons are moderate to strong rain and thunderstorms coupled with super strong winds, sometimes comparable to a tornado outbreak. I have seen and experienced them firsthand. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the major disaster Super Typhoon Haiyan back in 2013 that killed tens of thousands of people and caused millions of property damages in several Philippine regions? The UN, Doctors Without Borders, and other international organizations called it the worst natural disaster/calamity if the decade, if I remember correctly. ***WARNING: GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS AHEAD*** I was part of the first responders to that calamity and it was the worst experience. I still have nightmares about it, to be honest. Dozens of dead bodies and a once-thriving city reduced to rubble. Not to be crass, but the closest way that I could describe it is "zombie apocalyptic". And the smell. OH MY GOD, THE SMELL. It was something that was burned in my mind even after weeks of leaving our response location. It's so hard to describe it, but it's more than the smell of dead bodies and trash and dirty, black water. It's the smell of hopelessness and despair and just overall gloom (I'm not even trying to be poetic here, it's really the best way to describe that heavy stench that just won't go away). *** I wouldn't want to live in a tornado/storm/any disaster-prone area, to be honest. But if response and emergency assistance is needed, I wouldn't mind working and living in a response location again. I have long accepted that my country is one of the most vulnerable ones in terms of climate change effects. And excitement-wise? Hmm, I think I've already reached my quota of storm-related excitement in this lifetime. It's really hard to get excited over a tragedy that just broke too many spirits. Although some of my surfer friends claim that storm-chasing is a thing among the most daring surfers. They have invited me to try it out or even just watch, but I haven't as of the moment. I guess it would be exciting to watch storm-chasing surfers, but I would be too scared to try it myself. :)

grew up in oklahoma and experiences many tornado seasons. No megusta Had dreams of tornadoes, but woke up right before they hit. I live in texas.... so im still in tornado bowl (in fact there is a tornado watch right now and im hiding in blankets... ) I would fucking die if i saw another tornado in person, even tiny ones can be scary. so i would dream of chasing them... We drove back to texas literally 2 hours before the massive moore tornado happened... which thank god we left when we did. It hit right in i- 35. My question is HOW THE FUCK DID THE WARREN THEATER STAY PUT WHEN THE HOSPITAL DIDNT??

I haven't ever seen a tornado in my life since Venezuela is surrounded by these things: http://www.costadevenezuela.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/07.jpg So no hurricanes, no tsunamis, either. But, there's a place here that might be interesting to look up. Above the Lago de Maracaibo, there is a phenomenon called 'Catatumbo lightning' or 'ever lasting storm', the most electric place on Earth, apparently. Gives a spectacular visual. http://infinitelegroom.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/catatumbo-lightning-00.jpg http://i.imgur.com/B6kgRQQ.jpg
