Wild West Fest 2013

Celebrate all things Steampunk in the streets of a real Ghost Town! Hot air balloons soar high above dusty purple desert mountains which harbor, nestled in a canyon, a treasure trove of California history. These festive and colorful airships serve to begin the celebration of two worlds merged: Steampunk and one of the last authentic remaining silver mining towns in Southern California, Calico Ghost Town. Wooden sidewalks are strewn with lovely ladies in feathered hats, monocles, gloves and tapestry coats; The melancholy waltz of a string quartet echos through the streets where miners used to walk 100 years ago; and now where couples adorned in stylized futuristic Victorian frocks dance under the stars. H.G. Wells and Jules Verne would feel at home among the display of whimsical science-fiction art work and creations.This is only the beginning...JOIN THE REVELRY! Begin the festivities on Friday night April 26, 2013 with an evening social! On Saturday, April 27, the event kick offs with the morning flight of AIRSHIPS (aka hot air balloons!) by the Southern California Hot Air Balloon Society. They will fly high above the Calico Mountains and serve as a festive beginning to a memorable day. Join us as the old meets the new in an exciting day filled with gunfights, period music, quick draw exhibits, panels, fashions and more! The celebration goes all day with performances by Steampunk theater groups, displays of Steampunk art, clothing, literary readings and many vendors sharing their wares. The day ends with live music and dancing in the streets of the old town...just the way it used to be.
