@djlee: wow what, about the callus patterns? It's true! :) I mentioned Kendo, for example--there's a pattern of calluses that form on the left palm and around the inner circle of the right thumb and forefinger due to the way the shinai moves during practice. You get similar from bokken work in Aikido. And of course if someone plays guitar, their fretting hand picks up one pattern while the fingers they strum with get another--and the pattern is different if they finger-pick versus strumming with a pick. I actually have an interesting callus pattern on my right hand near the pinky and ring finger because of the peculiar way I tend to hold my steering wheel.
