Well I appreciate anime because its a higher quality entertainment than most western cartoons. I can name at least 20 perfect anime but about 5-10 great cartoon series. I've other hobbies besides, such as video games, writing and intellectual conversations...

I LOVE intellectual conversation. It's so hard to come by here in Florida.

I know, I use otaku in the American form of use. I doubt I'd use it if I visited Japan though. I'd still visit places with anime, manga, etc. though. I've had 2 Chinese roommates at my dorm (no longer there, but still) and they'd talk a lot to the other Chinese girls from our hall so I felt weird when I'd be watching a subbed anime or something and they were asking about it. I try to keep a balance between my normal and otaku side. Also, sounds like me. I like a lot of 90s American cartoons but besides that anime is a better quality animation/story medium. I like how it has a mixture of ideas, genres, age groups, and how deep some can be to make you cry or really think.

My Otaku side is my normal side. I have no trouble letting it out lol

Well, I have to have a balance because not everything can be about my otaku interests. Esp. with fashion design, I have to pull ideas from other things and mediums otherwise I might be repetitive or try basically ripping off an outfit design because I really like it and think it's perfect how it is. It's also not good form to talk about in some situations with certain people (I'm also in the business school so a lot of people are not in the creative mindset). I don't force my views on others, but I will offer to give explanations or tell them about something if it was really good. I even wear anime shirts/keychains or cosplay sometimes, but not every day.

^ Exactly Being a Computer Engineer I cannot just go and speculate about Ghost in the Shell or some other Sci-Fi anime i my work, I have to draw from other mediums in my life. I, for instance, am a bit of a food connoisseur, I love trying new foods as long as it isn't something too abstract, like chicken feet (Horrible taste). I have a Cantonese roommate and he doesn't really like anime. And although my friends like it, we do other stuff too, like study Japanese. I also like to cosplay, but I have never done it in public, although I will be doing so if my stuff arrives in time for the Hallows Evening here at FIT. Going as Naked Snake from Metal Gear.

If you're interested in pastries and sweets, Yumeiro Patissiere is a good food anime to watch. ^^ Love cooking and trying new recipes (even though I'm really picky with food). I don't like random abstract food like that either. I have several friends who aren't interested in anime or anything Japan related but I get along with them based on other interests. We take classes together too so we vent and complain about those. I've cosplayed several times in public for school. I wish I could more, but that means spending time and money sewing one because I'm perfectionistic.

the reason i prefer anime over cartoons and some american tv is anime has a beginning, middle, and end. You dont have to worry about them milking it and or about actors leaving due to contracts/money. Some anime milk it like naruto and bleach but not as bad as some of the american shows. I just like things to have a progressing plot. If prefering anime over normal tv makes me an otaku so be it. Tho i prolly watch a bit too much of it haha.

@mercule Nice, you have a poster from the series. :D As for anime, it is always nice to see a deep, dark plot where many american cartoons fail to bring to us. :D

yeah i went to otakon like 6 years ago when bandai was still big in the industry, and they were big on handing out free swag every hr if you were around. One of their big items was movie sized posters of series they had. So I have code geass, lucky star, scrapped princess, eureka seven, gurren lagann, and the disappearance of haruhi suzumiya. A few of them are autographed by VAs and singers
