Rape

So I dunno if you all pay attention to politics so I'll do a quick rundown. Brett Kav-whatever is being pushed to be the next supreme Court judge. He also happen to have at least 4 women who decided to finally speak up about rape/sexual assault at the hands of young/drunk Brett. I don't care for Brett. This topic isn't really about him, just the reason why this idea popped into my head. Regardless of your political background or siding, do you think rape victims should have a time limit on when they can speak up or no? Why or why not?

I am honestly curious because this seems to be a real divided topic/conclusion. Personally, I think you should speak up as soon as you are able to if only to prevent that "rapist" from raping again. However, I see victims that wait until something important comes up to spring it on them is just as good. I see it as the victim getting some power back and possibly closure and Justice. So I'm honestly split. I think sitting on it until the right moment is clever and acceptable. However, I think if you went after them as soon as possible and not wait years (if you can) would do more damage and help in the long run.

And, before anyone gets all huffy and say the dumbest thing "if you're not a victim then shut up", I've been sexually assaulted by 4 women. Twice while I was drunk and all 4 were people I called friends.

As long as they are able to present evidence of being raped, I dont care how long they wait. The problem is that typically the longer they wait, the harder it is to present evidence when they do speak up and therefore their stories seem to become more and more anecdotal as time goes on.

I feel like rape should be reported immediately. Like 1-2 months after the occurrence. Now i havent been raped and idk how it feels but come on now. Waiting until someone has already moved on in life or doing bigger things isnt when you should decide "oh Wow now is a great time" we all do things we regret who is to say in the future that person doesnt regret what they did? Alot of the people use the excuse of they were scared....tf is that person gonna do? Kill you? They already raped you, if they wanted they could have also killed you. Waiting until later is petty and frankly you are letting that person roam free after doing what they did to you i would feel you want justice served immediately. Not trying to sound like a dick, i have had close friends in that position and its no good for anyone. But be honest with yourself, we have too many false rape calls as it is. Eventually you are gonna turn it into "the boy who cried wolf"

What about the false reports that are legitimately false? I feel like plenty of actual rape victims feel genuinely not inclined to report on rape when you do have disingenuous people who will falsely report a rape. This "always believe in victims" mentality in our current day is quite terrifying since victim-hood has such a thin line compared to any other time. Like Panda said "the boy who cried wolf" is a scenario it can turn into, and look at the Salem witch trials. This is honestly a "this is why we can't have nice things" scenario, where we have some horrible people make it worse for all other individuals.
