The flood were of precursor design, to test each species when their turn to claim the mantle came up. Ancient probably would’ve succeeded against the flood, but they ran into the forerunners who defeated them and regressed their genomes to Neanderthals/primitive

The flood are the Precursor's or it is assumed. Humans ran from the flood and tried to stop the flood from getting hold in our galaxy but decided to just kill forerunners instead of opening a com channel? lol I always found that a forced plot device

Wasn’t it that the flood had already infected worlds in the forerunner territory and humanity killed everything on those planets, but the forerunners didn’t realize what the flood was and thought they were just killing forerunners?
