    I don't know about the nothing is spiritual part. We must first define spiritual. The universe it's self gave rise to consciousness(We're proof of that.), but being eternal, it could be an entity that we are unable to comprehend with our finite minds. I find it hard to believe that with eternity at hand and infinite possibilities, that the universe could not be something more, much more than we could ever possibly perceive. Being in an infinite loop, it, energy, is everything and nothing all at once.

    It's impossible to exist in the pre big Bang darkness because Space is indeed created by its expansion there is outsideof space. If for instance you could be out of the big Bang let's say 10 light years away. when the 1st ray of light from the big Bang hit your eye it would hit you with its original intensity, not a diluted intensity.  Time doesn't start until the big Bang.  It is actually accepted in physics that no matter where a consciousness is it is in the center of the universe
