Quote "capitalism works when theres a free market and theres nothing preventing others from providing the same services at cheaper costs."
I'd say that also only works in "theory", much like socialism. Both look great in theory and on paper, but both require certain restrictions.
For example, in capitalism, once you reach a certain amount of money no person COULD try to compete to provide the same services but better, because you could buy their company, buy their employees, undercut their prices, or even have them killed, their business destroyed, or their reputation ruined with enough money. The overly wealthy need to be highly controlled and regulated in a capitalistic society.
And it's the opposite in socialism, the very poor and the lazy become so intricately entwined in the systems that it demotivates others from wanting to work hard; why work hard when you get paid the same as the lazy.
In America, it's impossible to compete in healthcare, insurance, or banking - the largest sectors of our economy - because of expensive lawsuits and heavy regulation that only lawyers can understand. You have to be wealthy already to provide those services.
Universal basic income is an idea that should be supported when we are confident we have the resources to provide for every person. I think we're quite close to that, but not quite there yet. There's no reason any person should have to worry about being hungry even in the slightest if we actually had enough to go around.
Certain steps achieve similar effects without being quite so extreme - for example, France's law requiring grocery stores to donate, rather than throw away, old food, is a brilliant policy that redistributes wealth on a small scale without actually removing wealth from anyone, while also reducing waste and trash.
While it could be argued that that UBI reduces people's willingness to work, I think it will more cause people to work on things they want. Art, music, plays. If we literally have enough resources to feed everyone, I see no reason for everyone to have to do meaningless "lift this and put it on a shelf" brainless type jobs.

I support the poverty line given by World Bank, i.e. 1.25$ per day
