So are any of them connected? Does it matter if I play devil survivor before shin

Only ones that I can think of that are directly connected are the first and second SMT, and the IV games. But overall, they're loosely connected so you can easily play something like Soul Hackers or Nocturne without any worries.

None of the series are connected and most of the games in said series' are loosely connected. Very few cases where you have to worry about continuity.

None of them. The attack animations are lazy and suck assss for most of the games in the series.
