I've probably played the Souls games more than any other series out there. I used to love the damn games enough to claim they were what true gaming was all about (which was stupid in retrospect). Honestly though, nowadays, while I look back fondly on some aspects of the series (vague storytelling, intricate lore, emphasis on Metroidvania exploration, high difficulty that isn't entirely trial and error based), with each new game I feel like I'm becoming more cynical and hateful towards the series. It's not like the newer games are necessarily worse or anything, but the series hasn't really changed much since the beginning. Only arbitruary differences in where you go to level up, level design, NPCs, and landscapes really differ between the games.
It feels like to me From Software has gone to the same well too many times, and they haven't improved upon the original Dark Souls' gameplay in any significant ways. Even the lore is getting tiresome; mostly involving crapsack worlds being slowly destroyed by an arbitrary evilness as well as the inhabitants going crazy. It's just starting to feel very been there, done that. Dark Souls was the perfect rendition of what the series should have been, and I just don't think From is ever going to top that game.

I got into the series through Blooborne, yet I have been looking at the Souls series for a long time. Never had the balls to try it out and then a friend of mine told me to try out Bloodborne and I fell totally in love with the game till the point that it became addictive (something no other game ever achieved before). So, when Dark Souls 3 came out I was hesitant, because I heard it was more like Bloodborne, but still with the more complicated class system and everything. I decided to give it a go and I'm very much addivted to that now too. I was so interested that I decided to look up everything about the lore of 1 and 2 and more. I spend many of my days just looking at videos of people playing the game when I'm not playing myself

Dark souls is pretty good worthy of a challenge at least when you first start the game trying your best to figure out patterns in enemies and such.
Favorite dark souls is 3 after seeing what they added to it, nameless king was a well done secret boss.
Bloodborne was good a change of pace in the overall combat focusing on dishing out damage and speed.
I would say depending on your playstyle either Bloodborne or dark souls could be seen as harder.
Still though ninja Gaiden black beats both in overall cheap unfairness. Checkpoints, mistakes and the enemies.

@Yu I agree with what you said about playstyle. I played Bloodborne before I ever played a Dark Souls game. When I began as a knight I thought the shield would help me, but seriously, I can't get used to those things. At first the game also felt really slow, which gradually changed due to the fact that I decided upon a dex build. Once I had finished the game and wanted to play a little bit of Bloodborne again, it was actually kind of ruined for me, because the offensive playstyle was suddenly too much. I don't really mind, though, because Dks3 has way more weapons and is far more diverse than BB anyway and I'm not even done with my second playthrough yet. I don't play online, so going over SL 120-125 is not really an issue for me, so I have created a quality build and decided to put a little faith in it as wel to get a bit of that thunder blade going. Lcuk build seems to be really cool too, but I've already done the thing you're supposed to do for that wrong, so... That's for the next playthrough I guess

Good to see all of these Souls fans! I've enjoyed the souls series ever since I was 11, and I just haven't stopped loving it since. One of the only series that I can sit there and replay just for fun. So many possibilities and routes you can go in the game since it offers so much. I really love high vitality/strength/vigor builds. But, I have a few high Luck/Dex builds, just for that lovely bleed ;). Anyhow, hopefully there a a few more fans that will come forth!

The souls games are capital A mazing. What I love about them is the story. It's so delightfully vague that you have to literally fight for every detail, and no two players see it the same way.
