Wannabe Americans?

The subculture in Japan is called Yankii. "Yankii people" dye their hair blonde or orange or style it in a certain way. They are apparently loud and rude too. They obsess over an idealised 50's/60's version of USA, from what I can gather. Initially. But traditions lose their importance by the day. Those traditions didn't even go against the "ideals" that were shaped over time. They were simply forgotten and replaced. By cheap pop culture and materialism. Globalization has evened the playing field and enables you to access any culture you wish to (via the internet), however, it romantizes them. Which is why we have weebs. But as long as they hurt nobody... Idgaf.

Ok, so have you ever been to the U.S.? I am not trying to be condescending, I am just wondering. Where you see a crappy, bland, monochromatic culture that simply has economic or educational benefits to offfer, I see something else. I see the mixing of cultures, and if you look around you can still realize that there are a huge variety of cultures still here and still maintaining their own traditions even though some may have faded over time. And I will say this as well. I get tht the U.S. Is just another place to the rest of the world, probably is to a lot of Americans as well. But to some of us, its more than just a place on a map, it's our country, our home. It goes beyond the scope of just opportunity and having more liberties than anyone else. I think that is why you see such patriotic fervor here as opposed to in other countries. Just my two cents.

Nope. As I said I don't care for it. America is more a salad not a blend when it comes to different cultures. I have that where I live rn aswell, so... I never said "crappy, bland, monochromatic." oO I don't have a specifically positive opinion on it nor a negative one. And as I said I am a consumer of the American Entertainment industry and think that it's a beautiful country... Which part of that implies that I think America is crappy or bland? Yeah, well... But not mine. Where I live we have the same amount of liberties. Aside from owning guns and legal weed consumption maybe.

Yes and no. The USA (I'd appreciate if it isn't called America because that's a continent not a country) even though it has a lot of good things it has also bad points. As I said my preference would be for education but I'm not in favor of (to say an example but of course the USA has done a lot of horrendous stuff just for business and to maintain their position as a potence, other powerful countries also do so I'm not here to bash it) I'm not in favor of how they let parents educate their children or how some people there are pretty much really discriminating. Then again these sound like different issues coming from a State and its population, essentially it's one and the same. So, at least in my country we don't have people obsessed with becoming American since pretty much the government has always been hating towards the wrong called 'Empire' so half the population were influenced, but now that people opened their eyes and see how at least acquisitive power and security are way better than here, like in so many other countries, people just see it as seeking opportunities when moving abroad. Never forget their roots or anything like that. However, I must say that my opinion can also be from one point of view, still is how people see it down here.

Where are you? As someone who has been homeschooled, I am quite interested in your take on public education. It is a travesty to call public educatiin anything but terrible where I live. Last time I checked, the U.S. Is bot an Empire, even though we do have foreign territories like Samoa. Ok, so I am specifically speaking of the U.S. (The technical designation, not usa) not the entire North American continent. I dont know, I have no problem with people comig here for work or education, but we have so many lazy citizens and illegals who come just for benefits that it embarrasses me. There are jobs out there, but many U.S. Citizens dont want to fill them. Makes me sad really.

You see, I find that easier to understand that we all seem a bit different but mostly the same. I dont get the idolization of blonde hair though, personally, I just am the way I am.
