Well from what I saw and experienced myself, the world itself isn't so bad. Infact, it's actually kinda wonderful to me. Just the little shitheads in this world keep me (us) from seeing how beautiful the world actually is. But yeah, everywhere you go, there will be idiots, it's something you can't avoid. What you do from there is all up to you. I decided to not really give a damn anymore. Why would I care about little wankstains trying to bring me down with their nonsense? Plus, it never hurts to hope, aslong as you don't start 'expecting' things. Yes, that's where the real shit starts. You'll break your own little heart by doing so.

I disagree Sachi,
The world is both bad and good. It's an oxymoron. To see either side clearly depends on yourself and not others around you.
It'd be unfair to point the blame on others for your jading. You are choosing to let their thoughts and actions affect you technically.
If you want to be happy then find it within yourself to be that way.

As for the question you put, no, you are not stupid. I think hope the only thing people can have in a world were it seems as if others try to tear it down, as you say the world isn't as bad as most other people make out the planet is as it is. Mostly it seem pessimist look on everything that is negative or stressful events that's happen to them or around them (even though I believe media doesn't help but that's another story) then they projector this vibe on to others, then when optimist comes a long to show how the world has good init they just back way back into the negative mode leading them self to seek fulfilment in trival things or destructible things.

I think it is only a matter of perception. Each of us is unique so I believe a person would usually cope by seeing things in either a positive or negative or just don't care manner. I just hope that in what you see life in is that you stand by in your own decisions and don't regret anything. I've seen people being a pessimist, some people would see that as a sad way of viewing life, but sometimes a person uses that to cope and not getting overwhelmed and it actually works out.

So i'm not sure if my experience in life qualifies for me to make a great reply to this but i'll give you my best and most honest opinion.
To me, hope is a great thing that some lack due to varying experiences and viewpoints of the world, losing hope i would also consider giving up. In some cases i believe it's sad. And i don't especially like people like that.
Not that it should matter if i like it or not, but that's my opinion.
I've seen enough things and had just enough experience to tell that the world is pretty messed up, some live liking it, some live hating it, but i personally just want to change it. That's hope to me. I believe in something and i have dreams that i "hope" will come true, and some already have. Whether my hopes come true or not doesn't matter, having hope is what keeps myself from breaking apart in this pretty, well, messed up time.
Without hopes for a better future or that things would be alright, i'd probably be long gone, just saying.
I think we all cope with life in our own ways, some live on hopes and optimism, others are pessimistic and maybe try to avoid the disappointment which comes with occasionally having too high hopes. Life isn't a cake walk, we all know that, but hope makes it a little less hellish in my opinion.
But i don't know for sure, i'm only 14. Hope i was of any help ^^
