For those of you that hide your identity online...

I'm just curious why you do? Have you been stalked or bullied before? Online or in real life? Are you trans and still in the closet and avoiding people you know finding out? Are you trying to hide from an ex? Do you just hate how you look and afraid of being judged? I never really got the fear of being stalked by random strangers online. Like maybe if someone is crazy enough and live really close. But why would some random asshole travel half way across the country to stalk you when plenty of potential victims live much closer? I can see someone being paranoid if they had stalkers before but otherwise it sounds almost conceited to believe you are "special" enough for someone to stalk you. I've never had a stalker, anyone want my name and address? Especially a girl stalker would be awesome, but I'm not special enough. As for trans persons, I can totally understand being cautious. But people here are pretty understanding, there are lots of trans/cis persons on this site. As for people with self-esteem issues, that's more an issue with how you see yourself. Everyone wants to be beautiful but lots of people aren't to the standards of society. But this is a great place to be yourself without really being judged. There is the occasional asshole here like anywhere, but most people are really nice.

You see this whole topic way to careless. :3 I had someone who was stalking me in real life, every damn day and someone tried to rape me. It is called privacy and no one in here should get my adress for no reason... Anything else is just stupid. :c I´ve been on a few random forums on the net and everytime I uploaded a pick people started spamming me. When I had too many to reply they got rude... calling me an arrogant slut and so on. :/ Prefer to say anonymous though.

Not exactly sure what you are trying to say? I used TOR for a bit just to see what illegal .onion sites there were. Most of them got taken down anyway. But this doesn't have much to do with hiding your real life identity on here. Just curious why so many people don't post pics of themlves.

@darkxangel, like I said, I understand if someone been stalked before in real life, why they might hide their identity. Weird you get so much attention, you famous or something? I'm not famous or beautiful or a girl, nobody wants to stalk or rape me. Where do people spam you for posting a pic? Lots of people on here still do have pics and don't get spammed though anywhere on the net hot girls get guys hitting on them. Also, never said anyone should post their address! Though I would post mine because I don't care.

I'm sure people have their reasons for not wanting to post pictures of themselves. And reading angel's take on the topic, I absolutely understand why she wants to keep her appearance anonymous - there are some real douchebags online that will spam a pretty girl and if they don't get a response, they turn nasty on her for no reason whatsoever. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people on the internet would want to avoid those people at every cost. Sure I would prefer to know what people look like physically, especially when it comes to a site like this (I judge people by their character but I feel pictures are still important when it comes to people online - I feel it has a more personal connection when I know the face on the other side) BUT I get it, I understand why people want to keep their appearance a secret (where they might feel more comfortable to reveal their appearance in to people private in PM or through Skype video chat or something like that which I think is fine) and if someone feels safer that way then I think that's perfectly fine. Personally I'm alright showing pictures of myself, I have one so far which is sadly a little outdated (Cut my hair since then) but not by much - looking to get some really good ones of my current look to put up (as the stuff on my Facebook is VERY embarrassing). As far as information goes, I'll only go as far as revealing my first name and that's it; nothing more than that unless I feel comfortable telling someone in private. So yeah, I would prefer it much more when people post pictures of themselves but I'm not going to hold anything against them if they aren't comfortable with the idea - and I think we should respect that. The only time I think where posting pictures is downright stupid is when they clearly are not the person in their pictures, that's just being dishonest and deceitful in my opinion.

I am not here for dating and prefer it that way. :3 You have no clue how disgusting it is when someone you actually find in some points attractive is trying to rape you... Nightmares incoming... At least the police took care of him thank to my previous roommate. <3 It is even worse with socialmedia sites like facebook where people you barely met are trying to hook up with you... it´s just annoying as hell and I want to enjoy my time here...

I see, guess I'm missing out on random people trying to hook up with me since I don't have a vagina. Like I said, I understand if you had issues irl. At least the police took care of him.
